Zea mays, commonly known as corn or maize, is a cereal grain domesticated by indigenous peoples in southern Mexico. It is a staple food in many regions, used for human consumption, animal feed, and industrial products. Corn grows in tall stalks with large ears containing kernels. It thrives in warm climates and requires well-drained soil. Varieties include sweet corn, field corn, and popcorn. Corn is rich in carbohydrates, fiber, and vitamins like B-complex. It is also used in biofuels and bioplastics.
