Cornus sanguinea, commonly known as common dogwood or bloodtwig dogwood, is a deciduous shrub native to Europe and western Asia. It grows up to 4 meters tall and is known for its striking red stems in winter. The leaves are oval, green, and turn reddish-purple in autumn. It produces small white flowers in spring, followed by black berries. This plant thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun to partial shade. It is often used for hedges or ornamental purposes due to its vibrant winter color. The berries are mildly toxic to humans but attract birds.
