Ribes alpinum, commonly known as Alpine currant, is a deciduous shrub native to Europe. It grows up to 1.5 meters tall, with small, lobed green leaves and inconspicuous yellow-green flowers. It produces small red berries that are edible but bland. Hardy and shade-tolerant, it is often used in hedges and landscaping. The plant is dioecious, requiring both male and female plants for fruit production. It is low-maintenance and resistant to many pests and diseases.
