Elaeagnus umbellata, commonly known as autumn olive or Japanese silverberry, is a deciduous shrub native to East Asia. It produces fragrant yellow-white flowers in spring and small red berries in autumn. The plant is drought-tolerant, fixes nitrogen in the soil, and is often used for erosion control. However, it can become invasive in some regions. The berries are edible and rich in lycopene.
