Castanea sativa, commonly known as the sweet chestnut or European chestnut, is a deciduous tree native to Southern Europe and Asia Minor. It produces edible nuts (chestnuts) and has been cultivated for centuries for its timber and fruit. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, with long, serrated leaves and spiny fruit husks. It thrives in temperate climates and is valued for its durable wood and nutritious nuts.
