Nigella damascena, commonly known as love-in-a-mist or devil-in-the-bush, is an annual flowering plant native to southern Europe and North Africa. It features delicate, fern-like foliage and distinctive blue, white, or pink flowers surrounded by a mist of fine bracts. The blooms give way to ornamental, balloon-like seed pods. It thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, often self-seeding in gardens. Popular in cottage gardens, it is also used in dried floral arrangements. The plant is non-toxic but not typically consumed.
