Origanum vulgare, commonly known as oregano, is a perennial herb in the mint family (Lamiaceae). Native to Europe and Asia, it is widely cultivated for its aromatic leaves, used as a culinary herb in Mediterranean and other cuisines. It has small purple or pink flowers and thrives in well-drained soil with full sun. Oregano is also known for its potential medicinal properties, including antimicrobial and antioxidant effects.
