Ficus carica, commonly known as the common fig, is a deciduous tree or shrub native to the Mediterranean and western Asia. It produces edible fruit called figs, which are sweet and nutritious. The plant has large, lobed leaves and can grow up to 10 meters tall. It thrives in warm climates and well-drained soil. Figs are eaten fresh, dried, or used in cooking. The tree is also valued for its ornamental qualities.
