Primula elatior, commonly known as the oxlip, is a flowering plant in the Primulaceae family. Native to Europe, it thrives in damp woodlands and meadows. It features clusters of pale yellow flowers with a delicate fragrance, blooming in early spring. The leaves are wrinkled and form a basal rosette. It prefers partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Often confused with cowslips, oxlips have larger, more open flowers. It is valued for its ornamental appeal in gardens and as an early nectar source for pollinators.
