Asclepias curassavica, commonly known as tropical milkweed or bloodflower, is a perennial plant native to South America but widely naturalized in tropical regions. It features bright orange-red and yellow flowers that attract pollinators, especially monarch butterflies. The plant contains toxic cardiac glycosides, making it poisonous if ingested. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, often used in butterfly gardens. However, in non-native areas, it can disrupt monarch migration patterns and spread disease.
