The Aesculus glabra, commonly known as the Ohio buckeye, is a deciduous tree native to the Midwestern United States. It grows up to 50 feet tall and features palmate leaves with five leaflets. In spring, it produces yellow-green flowers followed by spiny fruit capsules containing shiny brown seeds. The seeds are toxic if ingested. The tree thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is often planted as an ornamental. Its wood is soft and not commercially valuable. The Ohio buckeye is the state tree of Ohio.
