Magnolia (Magnolia x loebneri 'Leonard Messel')

Magnolia x loebneri, or Loebner magnolia, is a hybrid between M. kobus and M. stellata. It features fragrant, star-shaped white or pink flowers in early spring before leaves emerge. Grows 20-30 ft tall, prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA zones 5-9. Popular cultivars include 'Leonard Messel' and 'Merrill'.
