Hepatica nobilis, also known as liverwort or kidneywort, is a perennial flowering plant in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). It features blue, purple, pink, or white flowers with 6-10 petal-like sepals and blooms in early spring. The leaves are three-lobed, leathery, and often persist through winter. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, it thrives in shady woodland areas and prefers moist, well-drained soil. Traditionally used in herbal medicine, it is now mainly valued as an ornamental plant. It is toxic if ingested.
