Chaenomeles japonica, commonly known as Japanese quince, is a deciduous shrub native to Japan. It produces vibrant red, orange, or pink flowers in early spring, followed by small, fragrant yellow-green fruits. The plant is valued for ornamental and culinary uses, as the fruits can be made into jellies or preserves. It thrives in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, growing up to 1 meter tall. Hardy and low-maintenance, it is often used in hedges or borders.
