Alpinia galanga, commonly known as galangal, is a tropical plant in the ginger family. It is native to Southeast Asia and is widely used in cooking and traditional medicine. The rhizomes have a pungent, citrusy flavor and are used in Thai, Indonesian, and other Asian cuisines. It also has medicinal properties, aiding digestion and reducing inflammation. The plant grows up to 2 meters tall with long leaves and white or red flowers.
