Erinus alpinus, commonly known as alpine balsam or fairy foxglove, is a low-growing perennial plant native to the Alps and Pyrenees. It produces small, star-shaped flowers in shades of pink, purple, or white, blooming from late spring to early summer. Thriving in rocky, well-drained soils, it's ideal for rock gardens, crevices, or walls. Hardy in USDA zones 4-8, it prefers full sun to partial shade and requires minimal maintenance. Its compact size (up to 6 inches tall) makes it suitable for small spaces. Drought-tolerant once established, it attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies.
