Cornus florida, commonly known as flowering dogwood, is a deciduous tree native to eastern North America. It is prized for its showy spring flowers, which are actually bracts surrounding small greenish-yellow flowers. The tree produces red berries in fall and has vibrant red-purple foliage. It grows 15-30 feet tall and prefers partial shade with well-drained, acidic soil. It is often used as an ornamental tree in landscapes.
