Common hollyhock (Alcea rosea)

Alcea rosea, commonly known as hollyhock, is a biennial or short-lived perennial plant. It features tall spikes of large, colorful flowers in shades of pink, red, yellow, white, or purple. Native to Asia and Europe, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Hollyhocks attract pollinators like bees and butterflies and are often used in cottage gardens. They can grow up to 8 feet tall and may require staking for support. The plant is drought-tolerant once established but susceptible to rust disease.
