Common corn cockle (Agrostemma githago)

Agrostemma githago, commonly known as corncockle, is an annual flowering plant native to Europe. It has slender stems, narrow leaves, and striking pink to purple flowers with five petals. Once a common weed in grain fields, it is now rare due to modern farming practices. The plant is toxic if ingested, containing saponins that can be harmful to humans and livestock. It grows up to 1 meter tall and prefers sunny, well-drained soils. Historically, it was used in folk medicine but is now mainly grown as an ornamental plant.
