Alnus glutinosa, commonly known as black alder or European alder, is a deciduous tree native to Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa. It thrives in wet or waterlogged soils, often found near rivers and wetlands. The tree has dark green, sticky leaves and produces catkins. It is valued for its nitrogen-fixing ability, improving soil fertility, and its wood is used for charcoal, furniture, and turning. It also supports wildlife, providing habitat and food for various species.
