Acorus calamus, commonly known as sweet flag or calamus, is a perennial wetland plant native to Asia, Europe, and North America. It has long, sword-shaped leaves and a distinctive aromatic rhizome. Traditionally used in herbal medicine and perfumery, it contains compounds like beta-asarone, which may have sedative and digestive benefits. However, some varieties are toxic if consumed in large amounts. It thrives in shallow water or moist soil and is often used in water gardens.
