Juniperus squamata, commonly known as flaky juniper or Himalayan juniper, is an evergreen coniferous shrub native to the Himalayas and parts of China. It has blue-green, needle-like foliage and a spreading growth habit. This hardy plant thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, making it popular in rock gardens and as ground cover. It is drought-tolerant and slow-growing, reaching up to 1.5 meters in height. Some cultivars, like 'Blue Star,' are prized for their dense, compact form and striking silver-blue foliage. It is low-maintenance and resistant to deer.
