Euonymus americanus, commonly known as American Strawberry Bush or Hearts-a-Burstin', is a deciduous shrub native to the eastern United States. It grows 6-10 feet tall, with green stems, elliptical leaves, and small greenish flowers in spring. Its distinctive feature is the bright red, warty fruit capsules that split open in fall to reveal orange seeds. It thrives in moist, shady woodlands and provides food for wildlife. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested.
