Agave americana, commonly known as the century plant, is a large succulent native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It has thick, spiky blue-green leaves with sharp teeth along the edges and a terminal spine. It can grow up to 6 feet tall and 10 feet wide. The plant blooms once in its lifetime, producing a tall flower stalk up to 30 feet, then dies. It thrives in arid climates, requires minimal water, and is often used in xeriscaping. Caution is needed due to its sharp spines and toxic sap.
