Lathyrus vernus, commonly known as spring vetchling or spring pea, is a perennial flowering plant in the Fabaceae family. Native to Europe and parts of Asia, it blooms in early spring with purple, pink, or white flowers. It prefers shady woodland habitats and well-drained soil. The plant is non-climbing and grows up to 40 cm tall. It is valued for its ornamental flowers but is toxic if ingested.
