Aesculus turbinata, commonly known as Japanese horse chestnut, is a deciduous tree native to Japan. It grows up to 30 meters tall with large, palmate leaves and produces white to pale yellow flowers in spring. The fruit is a spiny capsule containing glossy brown seeds. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and is often found in mountainous regions. The seeds are toxic if ingested raw but can be processed for medicinal or food use. The tree is valued for its ornamental beauty and shade.
