Cornus officinalis, also known as Japanese cornel or Asiatic dogwood, is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to East Asia. It produces bright yellow flowers in early spring and edible red berries. The fruit is used in traditional Chinese medicine for its purported benefits to liver and kidney health. It thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade.
