Aruncus dioicus, commonly known as goat's beard, is a perennial plant native to Europe, Asia, and North America. It thrives in moist, shady areas and produces tall, feathery white flower plumes in early summer. The plant is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate plants. It can reach up to 6 feet in height and is often used in woodland gardens or as a background plant. Hardy in USDA zones 3-7, it prefers rich, well-drained soil and partial to full shade.
