Chaenomeles speciosa, commonly known as flowering quince, is a deciduous shrub native to China. It produces vibrant red, pink, or white flowers in early spring before leaves appear. The plant bears small, fragrant, yellow-green fruits that are edible but tart. It thrives in well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade, often used in ornamental gardens for its striking blooms. Hardy and drought-tolerant, it attracts pollinators and can be pruned for shape.
