Colchicum autumnale, commonly known as autumn crocus or meadow saffron, is a perennial flowering plant native to Europe. It blooms in autumn with pink or purple flowers. All parts of the plant are highly toxic due to colchicine, a compound used medicinally but dangerous if ingested. It is not related to true crocuses.
